Bowling

The long lane ready and waiting
the destroyer already in hand.
the aim not quite steady.
It swings back and then whoosh
it runs down gaining speed as it goes
The targets are knocked flat
all except one, the same one.
Yet again. It laughs as it sits
and stares blankly out.
Another chance of an all in one lost
and yet not all hope is gone.
The cannon is yet again loaded
with extreme care.
This time a steadier hand aims,
shoots and down it goes
and all is again clear.

Bukhra Eid

Preparations for Bukhra Eid have already begun.
Through the streets, cows and camels
Sheep and oxen are taken to market
Ready to be sold for the big day.
On the night of Eid, people look up
The anticipation builds
Hoping to see that flash of silver
Clouds overhead, cover the dark sky
Just when all hope is gone,
Suddenly a clear patch of sky appears
And then, there in the sky is the moon
Hugs and cries of 'Eid Mubark' follow.
The morning of Eid arrives
The celebrations begin immediately.
New clothes for everyone.
Money is given to excited children
Animals are slaughtered and the flesh given to the poor
People visit each other, celebrating the day.
Outside, children play on the back streets,
But on the main roadsite, are streaks of blood,
A vivid reminder of the cost of the special day.

Teddy Bear

I lost my teddy bear today.
I'm sure I left him on the stair.
I told him to stay there.
When I checked today he wasn't there.
I've looked everywhere for my teddy bear.
Suddenly, I saw him there
Sitting under the stairs
Holding him, I hugged him to my chest.
Oh teddy bear, never go away again.

I miss you

I thought you'd always have my back
I never thought you'd leave me alone.
Why did you have to go?
I regret things I said
I laugh at the happy memories
I miss our talks,
I look up to you in the heavens
I wish you were still here.
 I  miss you...
